How to be a nurse?

How you get entrance into nursing schools?

Easy 6 steps-
*Complete high schools education from any stream- arts/commerce/science with biology or without biology (p.c.m/p.c.b).
*Research different nursing school/institute requirements.
*Apply to your chosen nursing school/institute.
*Attend a nursing information session.
*Take the TEAS test (test of essential academic skills).
*Prepare for your entrance interview.

Qualification for a nurse in India:

A.N.M- auxiliary nurse midwifery(village level female health worker)

- Minimum and maximum age of admission is 17 years or 35 years.
Or before 31st December of the year in which admission is sought.
- Minimum education requirements are 10+2 in arts/commerce or vocational stream only passing out from recognized board.
- Candidate shall be medically fits.
- Candidate qualified in 10+2 arts or science examination conducted by national institute of open school.
- Candidate shall be admitted once in a year.

GNM- general nursing & midwifery

- Minimum and maximum age for admission will be 17 and 35 years.
- Minimum education-
 10+2 class passed science and English with 40% marks.
 10+2 in commerce/arts (with any subjects) and English core/English elective or Health care science-vocational stream only, passing out from recognised board under AISSCE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE or other equivalent board with 40% marks.
- 10+2 vocational ANM under CBSE board or other equivalent board from the school & recognized by INC (Indian nursing council) with 40% marks.
- Registered as ANM with state nursing registration council.
- Student shall be medically fit.
- Student qualified in 10+2 arts or science examination or health care science- vocational stream only conducted by national institute of open school with 40% marks.
- Student should be admitted once in a year.

Bsc- Bachelor’ s of science (N)
- Minimum and maximum age of for admission is 17 and 35 years or before 31st December of the year in which admission is sought.
- Minimum education
10+2 passed with science PCB &and English core /English elective with 45%marks form recognised board under AISSCE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE and other board.
- Candidate should be medically fit.
- Appearing in 10+2 examination in science conducted by national institute of open school with 45% marks.
- Candidate shall be admitted once in a year.

PBBSC (POST BASIC BACHELOR’S OF SCIENCE – (N))

- PASSED higher secondary or senior secondary or intermediate or 10+2 or an equivalent examination recognized by the university for this purpose.
- Those who have done 10+1 in or before 1986, will be eligible for admission.
- Obtained a certificate in GNM and registered as (R.N.R.M) register nurse register midwives with the state nurse registration council.
- A male nurse, trained before the implementation of the new integrated course besides being registered as a nurse with state nurses registration council, shall produce evidence of training approved by Indian nursing council for a similar duration in lieu of midwifery in any one of the following of midwifery in any one of the following areas.
  • O.T techniques
  • Ophthalmic nursing
  • Leprosy nursing
  • Tuberculosis nursing
  • Psychiatric nursing
  • Cancer nursing
  • Orthopaedic nursing
  • Neurological &neuro surgical nursing
  • Community health nursing
- Candidate shall be medically fit.
- Candidate shall be admitted once in a year.

MSC-MASTER’S OF SCIENCE (N)

- The candidate should be a registered nurse and registered midwife or equivalent with any state nursing registration council.
- The minimum education requirement shall be passing of BSc nursing/BSc hons. Nursing /PB BSc nursing with minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
- The candidate should have undergone in BSc nursing/BSc hons. Nursing /PB BSc nursing in an institute which is suitable under section 13&14 of INC Act, 1947.
- Minimum one year of work experience after basic BSc nursing.
- Minimum one year of work experience prior or after PB BSc nursing.
- 5% relaxation of marks for SC/ST candidates may be given.

The above given courses are required for a person to be qualified as a nurse in India. After obtaining either of the  above qualification a person should be registered from respective state nursing council .
