 An intradermal implant, more accurately called a subdermal contraceptive implant , is a small, flexible plastic rod inserted just under the skin of the upper arm to prevent pregnancy. The implant is about the size of a matchstick (approximately 4 cm long) and contains the hormone etonogestrel , a type of progestin.
